One of the funniest books I have read in a long time. It’s sci-fi at it’s best. Holtz nails another one, his flair for the bizar keeps me coming back for more. The character development alone is worth it’s weight in gold!!
Lots of action: battles, strategy, tactics, torpedoes, grenades, guns, spaceships and aliens. If you like your mental images to sparkle with explosions then this is for you! An excellent story.
I encouraged you to have a listen to the free version of Collapse at Hidden ‘Verse Three-Three-Two, [...]. Listen to Brian’s excellent performance, and especially the voice of Tweezor!

A delightful story and very well produced. The characters and world Huchton creates sparkles. The audio was casted to perfection with large cast of familiar podcasters making the reader more connected from episode one. The choice of music, (Waking Dream, by Natalie Walker) complimented the story and added to the quality of the experience. This is one of those novels that I will never forget. I will cherish the memory of this wondrous adventure. Thank you, Ms. Starla Hutchton for sharing it me.
I now long for a new dreamer to wake up and find themselves in the Dreamer’s Thread. There is a wonderful weaving of humor in the story that helped break up a moments of severity. Starla’s own reading in the story shows that she cares deeply for the characters she has created and delivered to us through her podiobook.com presentation if The Dreamer’s Thread. I found myself wishing for more when the story was complete. Now that I can get out of my truck she is getting a well deserved Standing Ovation!

Everyone Dreams.

But what would you do if you suddenly found out that you were one of the few who creates dreams for the whole world? Would you use your power to harness the light and weave it into beautiful tapestries of magic and wonder, or would you fall prey to the seductive siren song of darkness and nightmares?

For tattoo artist Aura Mayville, this becomes a reality as she is ripped from her life of art and music and thrust into a realm where good and evil struggle for control over the minds and hearts of men.

With a sarcastic sorcerer, a mercenary, and her Spirit Guide as her only companions, Aura must journey through the dream realm to discover both her power and where her heart truly lies. In a place where anything is possible, can she find the strength to hold on to herself, or will she be lost to the shadows forever?

This book was a lot of fun and took some surprising turns. Sometimes I finish a podcasted novel and wonder why I even bothered to listen, but this was certainly not the case here. I look forward to more from this author.

That said, this author really is a good storyteller characters are vibrant and realistic, the pace is good, and for the most part the story is engaging. I would like to see more from this author as he definitely has a lot of potential. The reading is fast paced the narration is clear and the story is refreshing and had me hooked.

Science Fiction

I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a long time. This book doesn’t become some heavy, with evil plots no overdone space battles. WOW. I like how the events flow smoothly. It gives a nice feel to the story. It charts the everyday lives of these people. Really, there is plenty of drama in our real lives that we don’t need Star Wars or Storm trooper haunting our daily existence, and this book delivers that. I just enjoyed being among these characters. I like the nonchalant cohabitations of the sexes without everyone acting like each other as a sex object. I like the notion that being on a ship isn’t really different than being on a planet it has the potential to be pretty boring. the only antidote to that is to get involved and work hard.
There are a number of really good podiobooks and other podcast stories that I’ve listened to. But it is extremely rare for me to listen to any of them more than once. I’ve listened to Quarter Share more than once! There is a natural quality to the way that Nathan Lowell reads the story so it never seems like the story is being read, but like Ishmael is actually telling the story to you.

Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell

A Trader’s Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper : Book 1

When Ishmael Wang is orphaned by a flitter crash, he must make some hard decisions about how to survive in a Company-owned universe. With limited time and fewer options, he lands a job as the newest hand on the Solar Clipper Lois McKendrick and learns there’s more to life than making coffee. Join Ish, Pip, Big Bad Bev, and the rest of the Lois McKendrick’s crew as they sail the galaxy in search of profitable trade. For more information on the book and the Golden Age, see http://www.durandus.com/golden

What an incredible story this has been. It is one of the better series that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. At first I was kind of hesitant with his voice. I’ll admit that as he told the story he only got better and the production quality and background noises disappeared by the middle of the second book. The way he brought all of the characters out, was so natural and soothing and yet, suspenseful with tension and heartfelt situations.

The only problem I had was that Rathbone left me wanting allot more! I could have listened to another 12 or more books. Is Brian Rathbone the next Robert Jordan, giving his listener more and more longer stories that suck them in and won’t let them out? The good part is that Rathbone brought a conclusion and left it so that the reader wants more. It makes me think of what else he could produced and where he could go with this cast of characters and the world he so carefully built. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this series. Thank you Brain Rathbone for putting it out there in a podcast at podiobooks.com

All 3 podcasts are in a print version in 1 book titled The Dawning of Power and are available at amazon.com and smashwords.com in digital formats. This is a must read if you like fantasy.

While listening to him live on blog talk radio podioracket.com he did mention he might go back and write another book. You can listen to here or at the flowing links. I hear he is coming back to the show in October. He is an amazing author and nice guy.

Check out the sidebar for his great quotes from his book.

Boy am I hooked to this series. This book series continues to be legendary and profound. I recommend this series to any fantasy, fiction lover. One more time Brain Rathbone amazes me with his writing. He knows how to make you feel the pressure of the characters—the good and the bad. He writes like there’s no tomorrow. It is hard to stop listening. I want to keep to spend my weekend with the third book in the series but… I also want to have it for my commute.
More quotes from Rathbone’s books:
The souls of heroes are forged by the gods and tempered with the pain of life.
Matteo Dersinger, prophet

Darkness, no matter how powerful it may seem, can be driven back by the tiniest spark.
unknown soldier

This one of the most philosophical fantasy fiction books I’ ever read. The quotes which head each chapter add to the depth and character of the story as well as feeding my need to hear the next inspiring or wise thing Brian Rathbone has to share with his audience.

I truly enjoyed Brain Rathbone’s, The Call of the Herald. Over past few years, I’ve become a huge Fantasy geek and this book was right up my alley. It is filled with plenty of action and the twists and turns kept me driving onward to discover what would happen next. I definitely became attached to many of the characters as they played their parts in the quest and I learned more about them.

Some of the quotes Rathbone used were thought provoking and I found then as inspirational as Tolkien’s!!!

Life is the greatest of all mysteries, and though I seek to solve its manyriddles, my deepest fear is that I will succeed.
—CiCi Bajur, philosopher

If peace cannot be made, then peace shall be seized.
—Von of the Elsics

Just to name a couple.
This podiobook is a great listen that gave me a mix of emotions and an intense ride into Brain’s world. I gave this a 4 star rating because of a few recording issues.

Call of the Herald by Brian Rathbone

Echoes of the ancients’ power are distant memories, tattered and faded by the passage of eons, but that is about to change. A new dawn has arrived. Latent abilities, harbored in mankind’s deepest fibers, wait to be unleashed. Ancient evils awaken, and old fears ignite the fires of war. In times such as these, ordinary people have the power to save the world . . . or destroy it.

Call of the Herald is Book One of The Dawning of Power trilogy. A World of Godsland Novel.

For seven clones made from the same DNA, they are remarkably different. Yet, they share enough to show that they are brothers, after a fashion, however, the differences of their lives make them unique.

The same can be said of Hutchins’ performance. The Beta Clones and as the sole voice talent in a book with a huge cast of characters, the author still manages to project something unique with each of the clone’s voices. It’s one thing to shift accents and drop octaves while jumping between massively different personalities but this is masterfully done.

7th Son: Book Two – Deceit

Two days ago, seven human clones — John, Michael, Father Thomas, Dr. Mike, Jonathan, Jack and Kilroy2.0 — were torn away from their “normal” lives to stop a ruthless plot created by their progenitor, a man code-named John Alpha. Their quest was a descent into conspiracy, violence and death.

The clones were successful in their mission, but victory was not without its price.

As 7th Son: Book Two – Deceit begins, the Beta clones are demoralized, reeling from their loss … and about to learn that John Alpha’s plans are far from over.

To prevent the next phase of Alpha’s plan, John, Kilroy2.0, and the others must unearth more dark secrets about the government project from which they were spawned. They will experience the horrors of betrayal, and race cross-country to track John Alpha.

And they will finally realize the scope of Alpha’s wrath — the bloodshed the clones have witnessed is merely a prelude to the world-rending destruction to come. Unless they can stop it first.

Deceit is the second novel in J.C. Hutchins’ 7th Son thriller trilogy.

7th Son: Book Three – Destruction
As day four in the 7th Son adventure begins, John Alpha’s quest for anarchy and genocide enters its final stage.

At every turn, the global terrorist has been triumphant. The world is reeling from a nuclear attack. An unprecedented energy crisis is upon us. Alpha himself has exclusive access to the White House, and secret weapons primed to propel his conspiracy into the endgame. The goal: planetary chaos.

Amidst this turmoil, the 7th Son’s four surviving Beta Clones — John, Father Thomas, Kilroy2.0 and Jack — must defy their creators and hunt Alpha on their terms. Their mission: to stop the greatest assassination plot in history. The secrets John and his brothers discover will press them toward a final battle with their progenitor … a battle in which the clones are outgunned, outnumbered and out of time.

Alliances will be made. Heroes will die. The end is nigh.

I like the author’s voice and have really enjoyed the many voices the author has done. Good job! She just has a very special voice that takes getting use to. I have only listened to a few vampire books. I would put this one on the top of my list. I did not expect the novel to go where it did. I’m glad the author didn’t go to the evil vampire that either just kills to kill or the vampire hunter. The story line was very well written. Love the plot line with all the different characters all the way to the end and can’t wait for the next book!

Wheel of time series By Robert Jodans[starrating template_id=4]

I would like to pay my deepest respect and condolences to Robert Jordans family.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is by far the best book series of all time. The books tell the tale of a large cast of characters living in a fictional realm battling forces of evil. This description is extremely simplistic and generic, especially since the cast of characters, factions, societies, cities, customs, and events of the book are described in great detail and are very complex and intertwined. There may be some characters in the series that are inherently good or evil but everyone has complex and detailed personality and history, which leads them to have their own initiatives and tendencies

When you read a good book or watch a good movie it can often be hard to explain to others why it was so great. When you try explaining you often fail and explain that the other person will simply have to read or watch it for themselves. I won’t even begin to explain The Wheel of Time series beyond what I already have, it would be far too complex to even try and I would never do the series justice through any explanation. However, I will explain my feelings regarding the books. These books are the kind of books that leave you yearning for more. You feel connected and attached to certain characters, while at the same time you genuinely despise others. When you start reading them they become almost addictive as you can’t wait to find out what unfolds next. The story line is always complex and never predictable and as the story matures so do the characters and the plot. In my opinion The Wheel of Time series far surpasses other fantasy book series in terms of complexity and just outright brilliance.

While Robert Jordan will be sorely missed by all of his fans, it is a blessing to know that with the help of Brandon Sanderson and the guidance of his wife Harriet the final chapter in his epic tale will be brought to a close.
